GRT, UNA's lead agency for all social interventions, has been working to improve the living conditions of people with mental health problems, through medical and psychosocial assistance in Northern Somalia since 1996.
Deprivation of human rights and lack of medical and psychosocial care are some of the problems encountered by this group.
Thus, in Bosaso we currently support local structures such as the hospital as well as local non-governmental organizations in their strive to ease the psychosocial problems related to mental illnesses.
Key medical and social staff of hospital and local NGOs is trained for improved psychosocial interventions.
In a culturally sensitive manner, traditional and modern methods were merged into a community based system of psychosocial support to mental patients and their families.
In the current project, psychosocial support will be extended to IDP camps in Bosaso so that also vulnerable internally displaced people can benefit from the projects activities |
